Our Approach

Laser hair removal targets pigment within the root of the hair follicle, generating heat that damages the hair follicle and prevents hair from regrowing. Because laser hair removal technology targets pigment in the hair follicle, results are most evident for people with hair tones ranging from light brown to black. At Lushful Aesthetics we only utilize the gold standard in laser hair removal: the Cynosure EliteIQ. This machine is a dual wavelength YAG / Alexandrite system that is safe for all skin types.

For optimal results, you will need 8-12 sessions to achieve significant reductions in hair growth. Patients should expect to schedule their treatments every 4-8 weeks. Treatment plans for laser hair removal will be customized based on the amount of hair at baseline, hair color, skin tone, pain tolerance, and personal schedule. The staff at our medical spa will work with you to develop a plan that best suits your needs.

Pre-Care | Post-Care
  • Shave the area 24-48 hours before your laser hair removal session.

  • Avoid tanning, including spray-on tans and tanning lotions.

  • Do not wax or sugar the area for one month before treatment.

  • Avoid medications that increase photosensitivity (i.e., antibiotics).

  • Do not use any products that may increase your skin sensitivity for one week before treatment, such as Retinols, Salicylic Acid, Benzoyl Peroxide, Glycolic Acid, etc.

FAQs

Is laser hair removal an option for people with darker complexions?

At Lushful Aesthetics, we chose our laser because it is a dual laser and the gold standard for treating darker skin tones effectively, efficiently, and safely. Many other lasers are not suitable for treating patients with darker complexions as there is a risk of hyperpigmentation.

How long does laser hair removal last? Will hair grow back after?

The results of laser hair removal permanently destroy your hair follicles, meaning you will not grow these particular hairs again. This does NOT mean that new ones won’t grow. So it's possible—especially after a few months—that you'll notice new hairs growing in your treated areas, even if they aren't the same as the ones that have been removed. Many factors, including age, gender, hormone levels, and metabolism will affect your body's ability to create new hair follicles. Most patients who want to maintain a smooth appearance will go on a maintenance plan that usually consists of a laser session every few months as opposed to every few weeks. Otherwise, most patients see very little hair regrowth and many think it’s fine as is.

How will it look if I get laser hair removal on my butt, but not my legs?

We recommend buzzing 2-3 inches below the butt with a trimmer at a medium length to create a fade. You may need to experiment to find the best length for your aesthetic.

Is it possible to get laser hair removal for my pubic hair but not be completely hairless?

Yes. Your provider can customize the shape and style of your pubic hair however you’d like. Some people will leave hair above, but like to get the inner legs done to help reduce ingrown hairs and razor burns. Regardless of your aesthetic preferences, just let us know and we’ll customize your laser hair removal treatment to your preference.

I’ve had laser hair removal before, but it didn’t work. Is your service any different?

Several laser hair removal devices have become more efficient over time. Unfortunately, hair removal lasers are expensive and many other providers have decided not to upgrade their technology. We still sometimes hear about some places using IPL machines, which are not designed for laser hair removal. Here at Lushful Aesthetics, we utilize the Cynosure EliteIQ, which is the gold standard for laser hair removal. This means we can fully customize the settings to your skin and hair type to deliver the best results possible.

How should I prepare for my laser hair removal session?

Sun exposure and antibiotics should be avoided for 2 weeks before receiving laser hair removal. Skin that is exposed to the sun is more sensitive to the laser. Tanned skin is also more difficult to treat when it comes to seeing results. Therefore, we ask patients to try to be at their baseline skin color. Patients must be off Accutane for at least one year before being treated. Patients should ideally shave 1-3 days before their appointment. Same-day shaving is not recommended as the skin is more irritated and it’s harder for the laser to find the hair follicle to treat. Waxing, sugaring, and chemical hair removal (like Nair) should be discontinued at least a month before laser hair removal treatment.

How is laser hair removal for men different than laser hair removal for women?

Men have more active testosterone than women, especially younger men. Testosterone plays a major role in creating new hair follicles. This makes laser hair removal for men a longer process that requires more sessions than you’d see with a female patient. Men should also expect to maintain their results with 3-4 treatments a year once they reach their desired outcome.

Does laser hair removal hurt?

Laser hair removal feels like a rubber band snap on the skin – although each patient’s comfort level is different. We use a medical laser that is highly effective, extremely adjustable, and designed for hair removal to make the experience comfortable for our patients while delivering great results. Depending on the areas treated, we often adjust the settings throughout the treatment for more sensitive areas. We offer the latest in laser technology, which incorporates an industry-leading cooling technology to improve comfort.

How many sessions of laser hair removal do I need?

Each patient is unique. Various factors affect hair reduction, including the amount of hair at baseline, the color of the hair and skin tone, and the patient’s pain tolerance. Patients undergoing hormone replacement for testosterone will also have greater difficulty with hair reduction and will require more sessions to achieve their goals. The patients who see the best and fastest results have dark hair and lighter skin, as the laser setting can be safely set at a higher setting. That being said, our laser is equipped to treat all skin tones, and all of our patients have been satisfied with their laser results.

How many laser hair removal sessions on average will get the optimum results?

We sell our laser hair removal packages in sets of 6. Most patients see amazing results in 8-12 sessions. It varies dramatically depending on the patient's baseline hair density, skin tone, hair color, and pain tolerance.

Are there people who don’t qualify for laser hair removal?

Unfortunately, people with white, grey, light blonde, and light red hair, won’t see results from laser hair removal. The laser targets pigment in the hair follicle and these tones lack pigment.

What areas does laser hair removal treat?

We can treat virtually any area with hair. Common areas we regularly treat are unwanted facial hair, back & shoulders, pubic region, bikini/speedo area, butt, and arms & legs.

Can hair on the shaft of my penis be removed with lasers?

We regularly treat this as part of the pubic-clean-up or Brazilian laser hair removal treatments and patients have seen great results.

Is laser hair removal on your scrotum safe?

Lasering the scrotum is safe. You will want to choose the public clean-up or Brazilian laser hair removal treatment to have your scrotum treated.

How long does it take to recover from laser hair removal?

We recommend patients avoid exercise, sun exposure, and hot showers for at least 4 hours. The goal is just to keep the area cool and dry. Apply SPF, as you always should, to the area if it’s exposed to the sun.

What are the side effects of laser hair removal?

The most common “side effect” of laser hair removal is itchiness. This is easily treated with some over-the-counter hydrocortisone cream. Patients who experience this only feel it in the first 1-3 days post-treatment.

Can I laser hair that’s on a tattoo?

No. Unfortunately, since the laser targets pigment, running it over a tattoo would ruin the tattoo and possibly burn the patient. Thus these areas need to be avoided.

How much does full-body laser hair removal cost?

Full-body laser hair removal costs $700 per session, with packages starting at six sessions for $3,500. This option allows for complete customization of your treatment to address multiple areas, making it a cost-effective choice if you plan to treat more than 3 areas.

Can you have sex after laser hair removal?

It is recommended to wait at least 24-48 hours after laser hair removal before engaging in sexual activity. This allows the treated area to heal and reduces the risk of irritation or infection. Always follow post-care instructions provided by your technician to ensure the best results and minimize discomfort.
