Perfect for first-time botox users and experienced facial or body botox users alike, botox prep requires just a few easy steps to make your experience at the MedSpa more pleasant along with reducing post-botox swelling.

The Basics of Botox & Filler.

Getting ready for botox and filler on any part of your body can be done in a couple of simple steps. Even if you are a first-time botox user, it’s important to remember that botox and fillers are safe, effective, and FDA-approved. Millions of people have used botox and fillers to get a more youthful look that has long-lasting and enduring results.

What Medications Don’t Mix Well With Botox & Fillers?

Before you do anything else on botox prep, talk to your doctor about what medications you are on, such as some blood-thinning medications, which can make you more prone to bruising. These blood-thinning medications can include aspirin, painkillers like ibuprofen or Advil, and more. It is highly recommended to stop taking these medications two weeks prior to your botox and filler treatment, but even just a few days in advance is helpful to minimize bruising. The reason why you should not take any of these blood-thinning medications is because of bruising or swelling that can occur during post-botox care. While bruising and swelling are completely normal side effects of botox, blood-thinning medications can actually make these symptoms worse.

How to Prevent Bruising From Fillers and Botox Prep.

Even if you cannot completely prevent bruising during botox recovery, there are some techniques when you learn how to prep for botox to prevent extensive bruising and swelling. It first starts with making sure you’re well-hydrated and eating a proper meal before your treatment.  Make sure to eliminate alcohol before–and after–botox treatment. Alcohol is a vasodilator and will cause your blood vessels to relax, which means you will be more prone to bruising and swelling in the treated area. Even a single shot or a casual glass of wine can trigger this effect, so stay away from any alcoholic beverages for 24 hours before and after your botox and filler treatment.  In a similar fashion, you should avoid working out for 48 hours after you have received your botox injections, giving your body enough time to recover. An increased heart rate will help create blood flow, and therefore can help trigger swelling and bruising.

While Lushful Aesthetics doesn’t recommend immediately using an ice-pack post procedure (as this is a source for potential infection). Icing the next day can be helpful for easing any mild bruising that may occur.

How Should You Prepare Your Skin for Botox?

A major step in botox prep is knowing how to prepare your skin. Patients should avoid arriving at their appointment with heavy makeup on. This will all need to be removed to prevent contamination of the treated areas.
